Frequently Asked Questions

Who sponsors this site and why was it created?

By offering one Web site, which includes all Mennonite Church USA organizations, together we can provide an effective credit/debit card giving system.

What are the benefits of using this site?
It allows you to make multiple contributions to your favorite Mennonite organizations through one credit/debit card transaction at a time that is most convenient for you. It also provides a central location to learn about new giving opportunities.

How will my transaction be handled?
When you donate online, Mennonite Foundation will take ownership of your funds and will review and approve your gift recommendations. You will receive an electronic receipt from Mennonite Foundation which should be retained as your official receipt for tax purposes. Organizations will be notified via email that a gift has been made to their organization. Organizations need to sign-on to the web site to review the details pertaining to their organization. The organization itself will then receive the funds through a monthly disbursement by Mennonite Foundation. If you have requested anonymity, your identity will be withheld from the organization.

How long will it take for the organization to receive my money?

When may I take my income tax deduction for gifts made on this site?
According to Rev. Rul. 78-38, 1978-1 CB 67, a donor who makes a charitable gift using a bank credit card can deduct the gift in the year it is charged. The gift is deemed made as of the date the bank transfers the funds to the charity. That date is shown on the bank statement. But it might not be the date (or, more important, the year) of the transaction shown on the web site. While your contribution is potentially tax deductible, neither Mennonite Foundation nor MCUSA makes representation as to how the tax rules apply to you. Tax deductions are matters between yourself and your tax advisor.
